Defensive Compliance

The news that the FSA have recently fined practicing MLRO Michael Wheelhouse £17,500 - to be paid from his own pocket - for not having adequate anti-money laundering systems and controls in place marks a paradigm shift in the way the FSA view and handle perceived compliance transgressions. It is only be a matter of time before similar punishments are meted out to other MLROs.
